Ruwanweliseya Dagoba

Known as the "Great Stupa" Ruwanweliseya is undoubtedly just that. A perfect dome stands more than 300 feet and 370 feet in diameter, and huge Ruwanweliseya is perhaps the most sacred dagoba in the island as a whole, because it is believed to house the largest number of relics of the Buddha. It was believed the construction of this large dagoba had begun in the reign of King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BC.

As with most historical monuments in Sri Lanka, Ruwanweliseya has a deep connection with Buddhism. It is believed that the dome-shaped milk dagoba be perfect bubble shape, representing Buddhist philosophy in life ... Life bubble that will explode at any time, such as the fragility of our lives.
