Esala Perahera in Sri Lanka

Esala Perahera (procession Esala) is a large festival with elegant fashion, which was held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This procession is held historic (perahera) annually to honor the remains of the sacred tooth of Buddha, which is located in Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.
A unique symbol of Sri Lanka, and the procession consists of many local traditional dances such as the fire dances, whip, and dances, dances Candy and various other cultural dances, in addition to the elephants, who often adorned with luxury clothing. The festival ends with the traditional ritual Aldeh- kepeema, cut water ceremony which will be held in the Mahaweli River in Getambe, Candy.

It is believed that the Esala be a combination of the two "Peraheras" separate but interconnected (Processions) - The Esala and Dalada. And Esala Perahera, which is believed to date back to the 3rd century BC, was a ritual enacted to request the gods for rainfall. It is believed that the Perahera Dalada had begun when he was bringing the remains of Buddha sacred tooth to Sri Lanka from India during the century 16:00, eight hundred years after the death of Buddha. 

According to tradition, the remains of the teeth taken in procession to Sri Lanka Princess and Prince Hemamala Dantha.
