COLOMBO AND THE WEST COAST

The west coast of Sri Lanka is the front door of the island (f) through the international airport in Colombo outside Colombo - an access point for all visitors to this country (at least pending the opening of the new international terminal at Hambantota). This is Sri Lanka in more developed in terms of population and: crowded, brashest and the region's most western of the country, which includes the capital and the coastal resorts key, which fused all, but now to the tape of continuous concrete, which meanders along the coast for more than a hundred kilometers.

It is located about two-thirds of the way down the west coast, the capital of Sri Lanka sprawling, Colombo, is usually low on the guest list of priorities, although unprepossessing lies beneath the surface of the city's abundant curiosity and offering a wonderful microcosm of contemporary Sri Lanka. North of Colombo is a busy resort of Negombo, which proximity to the airport makes it a popular stop on the first or last several routes, while farther along the coast is ideal Kalpitiya peninsula, with deserted beaches and wonderful dolphin watching, (f) and a short drive internal - the vast Wilpattu national Park, and is now slowly regaining its former glory after decades of unrest during the civil war.

To the south of the capital, located in the main tourist resorts of the island. The main areas - Kalutara, Beruwala and Bentota - is home to large-sized hotels endless that meet European vacation packages for two weeks. Still pockets of serenity, and even with that, along with some hotels abundant and guesthouses, while to the south lies Hikkaduwa, hangout hippie native of Sri Lanka, and now rather past its best, even though they do not retain some of the charm and bottom of the heel (sleepiness Sri Lankan standards anyway) and refreshingly upbeat atmosphere thanks to their backs who still flock here for cheap sun, sand and surf.
